Prince George Hosts Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League Showcase Matches

For Immediate Release
April 4, 2008

Edmonton, AB – The city of Prince George will host two Showcase Matches to gauge the viability of possible Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League expansion into East Central British Columbia.

The Edmonton Drillers, one of four CMISL franchises which began regular season play in January, will kick off against Prince George F.C. in challenge matches scheduled for CN Centre April 5 and 6.

The league, which successfully staged a series of Showcase Matches in 2007 and recently completed its inaugural championship season, is contemplating expansion for the 2008-09 season. Prince George currently rates among the list of potential expansion cities compiled by the league.

“Although Prince George is not the same size as our markets in Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon and Winnipeg, strong consideration has to be given to expanding there due to the fact so many individuals are registered to play soccer,” noted CMISL president Mel Kowalchuk.

“Prince George has to have one of the highest per capita registrations in Canada. In addition, the CN Centre is perfect for our league. By staging the Showcase Matches we expect Prince George will prove in convincing fashion that indoor soccer can flourish in that market.”

Tickets for the Prince George Showcase Matches are available through TicketMaster.
