Battle of Alberta For Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League Title and Champions Trophy

For Immediate Release
March 14, 2008

Edmonton, AB – The Battle of Alberta moves to St. Albert’s Servus Place as the Edmonton Drillers and Calgary United FC square off in the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League championship tonight at 7:05.

As the top two seeds in the standings, the Drillers and United FC will compete for the CMISL Champions trophy and inaugural league title in the one game, winner-take-all showdown.

Both teams finished the 10-game regular season with identical 8-2 records. However, by virtue of a superior “points for/points against” differential in head-to-head meetings, Edmonton was awarded top spot in the standings.

In four regular season encounters, the teams finished their head-to-head series with 2-2 records. The Drillers outscored Calgary 26-20 in that quartet of games.

Edmonton dropped a 4-3 decision to United FC at the Stampede Corral January 19. Back on Servus Place turf, the Drillers scored a 10-4 victory January 25 and an 8-4 win on February 15.

Calgary evened their record versus the Drillers with an 8-5 victory March 7 and handed Edmonton its only home loss of the season in the process.

United FC is currently riding a three-game road win streak while the Drillers have victories in two of their last three starts at Servus Place.
